    To properly restore the condition of your paint the car has to be cleaned/decontaminated usually with washing and a "clay bar " material . Then a professional detailer can see what needs to be done.  Then the customer can decide to what extent you want the detailer to go through in obtaining that shine. This also gives you some control in how much you want to pay.

       With vehicles that have  minor oxidation , swirl marks, some minor scratches and a few deeper scratches in the clear coat of the paint, A one step paint correction with a machine polisher is required, This will get  the oxidation, the swirl marks and maybe some of the minor scratches out of the clear coat of your paint.

   This will not remove deeper scratches but it will remove lighter ones and it will give your car a glossy shine.  To have all of the  deeper scratches corrected, a 2 step paint correction is required. Your paint’s clear coat will  go through a machine compounding and then machine polished. A wax or sealant is critical after this step to protect the work that has just been done.

     The clear coat layer is great at protecting the paint to a certain extent. Anything that scratches below the clear coat into the paint cannot be buffed out.  A good rule of thumb to go by is if you take your fingernail across the scratch does it go into a unsmooth area? If so touch up paint is likely required

What is a Clay Bar treatment?

Automotive detailing clay is a resin compound used to remove contaminants from the surface of your vehicle  . Detail clay removes from the paint what washing cant (brake dust ,fall out. tree sap etc.... These contaminants bond to paint finishes, contamination can  remain  on your vehicle through rain, car washes, and even polishing. The only way to clean these pollutants is  detailing clay. Detailing clay slides across the surface of your paint and grabs anything that is stuck in the paint. The particle attaches to the clay and is removed from your vehicle. Clay bar cannot remove scratches or oxidation from your paint job , only polishing and compounding can do that .
